Ian is 21 months old. It is absolutely insane to me that my baby boy is going to be two years old in less than three months!! And I thought his first birthday was hard.
He is such a funny little person. I'm learning to handle the tantrums better, so the last few weeks have been easier than the months before. Babies really should come with manuals--they constantly change and, if you're like me, you don't just automatically know how to handle the changes. For example, Ian pushed a little boy at the park today. I had to pull him aside and have him look me in the eye and tell him if he did that again we would leave. I don't know how much he understood, but he didn't push the kid again.
There is so much that he does that I want to write down so I remember, but then I sit down to do it and I forget. His thing now is to say "er-oo-go" (there you go). He says it for everything. He also says "Doh" when he wants to watch his VeggieTales video. If he doesn't get his point across quickly enough (or we don't respond quickly enough) he even goes so far as to bring us the DVD player remote.
He still announces "poop" and "pee-pee" after he's already gone. Nicole suggested a book that I need to go pick up. The bookstore is just so far away...it's hard to motivate myself. I guess a kid going in the potty would be worth the drive, though, huh?
One of these days when I'm actually focused on the things I don't want to forget, I'm going to have to just make myself sit down right then and write them down. I would love to record more, but he stops what he's doing and goes after the video camera as soon as I pull it out.
Oh! He's doing some stuff now--he's reminding me. He says "aaaaaah...Beesh!" all the time. Generally he does it right before he throws himself on the couch or a pillow. I have no idea what it means. He's also just learning to jump which is very comical. He lifts one leg and then the other--it's more of a skip than a jump, but he tries so hard. :)
Now, May in Vegas. I am miserable--it's HOT. And the way to make the child and his tantrums bareable was to not be in the house all day. But yesterday we hit 107 and today we are currently at 108. This makes getting out very difficult--Ian turns pink and dehydrates about the second we walk out the door. I brought two sippies with us today and it wasn't near enough--he chugged down another of straight water once we got home. He'll only drink water when he's REALLY thirsty.
We ran to the store for some medicine for Hazen's back, and on the way we passed Ian's favorite park. This was at 9am. I noticed that the sprinkler toys were going, so I figured I would let him get out and run through the water before it got too hot. We spent about an hour there, and by the time we left it was already pushing 100. So it appears the only way I'm going to be able to let him get any park time is if we go out immediately after breakfast. After the store, we had to go pick up his birth certificate (yes, I'm just getting to that...21 months isn't bad procrastination, right??), we went to Rubulcaba's to get some lunch for Hazen, dropped off Hazen's food and medicine, filled the car ($48!!!!), and washed the car. We got home at 1 and I was already beat. Apparently he was, too, since he napped for three hours (woo-hoo!).
I am not happy that it's gotten so hot so early this year. This really makes things difficult--poor Ian ends up in a burning hot carseat. I cover it when we're not using it, but there isn't much that can compete with 100+ degrees and a black interior. Plus, our energy bill is going to be crazy earlier than usual. I'm not looking forward to that at all. Since it feels pretty comfortable in here right now (at 84) I went ahead and turned off the air for a little while. I'm going to have to pop it back on soon though before I end up sweating out my poor kid. It's just frustrating to watch a monthly bill triple in a matter of weeks.
